Pi Sigma Alpha

Pi Sigma Alpha (ΠΣΑ)

Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, Eta Eta Chapter, is here to give all students at NMSU the opportunity to explore current events, national elections, international relations, and political philosophy in order to build a group of like-minded people who are passionate about engaging in and advocating for vibrant and energetic public discourse. We also eat pizza and watch movies sometimes!

Why Join Pi Sigma Alpha?

Pi Sigma Alpha allows for students to meet outside the classroom and have meaningful discussions about politics, international relations, and a whole host of other issues. What use is an education in political science if the only place to talk about the subject is in the classroom? Pi Sigma Alpha hopes to provide a forum for the students most engaged in the world of politics and current events to discuss these issues with like-minded students. Did we mention pizza movie nights?

Topics for Future Discussion Include:

  • Russian relations with the United States: Cyber Cold War?
  • Terrorism: What is to be Done?
  • The Refugee Crisis
  • Debating the 2020 Presidential Candidates
  • Globalization: Who is it working for?
  • Voting in the 21st century: rights and suffrage
  • COVID-19: the “New Normal”
  • Climate Change: What to do?

Previous discussion topics have included:

  • Russia’s Intervention in Syria
