Passion, Power, Politics and Purpose: Lessons from a Life of Public Service
Former US Ambassador to South Africa (1999-2001), Delano Lewis shared his reflections and personal experience in pursuing higher education, public service and political engagement. He presented and signed his two books, “It All Begins With Self” and his personal memoir “No Condition is Permanent.” Besides serving as US ambassador to South Africa, Ambassador Lewis has provided leadership in many roles, including as president of National Public Radio and leadership positions in the Peace Corps, the Justice Department, the Office of Compliance of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and in the private sector as CEO of Bell Atlantic. Ambassador Lewis also led the International Relations Institute (IRI) at NMSU from 2007 to 2012. Copies of Ambassador Lewis’s books are available for purchase and signing.
